Scholarly Writers on Substack
Insider tips, stylish savings, WriteSPACE renos, and the art of editing
Dear fellow writer,
Do you want to broaden your research impact, engage with wider audiences, and tune your writing voice to a livelier key?
Join me next week for Scholarly Writers on Substack, a FREE WriteSPACE Special Event with Dr. Sarah Fay, author of the popular Substack Writers @ Work newsletter. Sarah is an expert consultant who helps writers flourish on this powerful (but sometimes rather confusing and complicated!) publishing platform.
In the first hour of this live Zoom event, Sarah and I will discuss why scholarly writers might choose to publish on Substack and how they can thrive there. In the second hour, we’ll lead a hands-on workshop for paid subscribers of our respective membership communities (my WriteSPACE and Sarah’s Substack Writers @ Work) in which we’ll respond to your questions about how to get started on Substack and guide you through a reflective Q&A about your own writing aspirations and goals.
This 2-hour WriteSPACE Special Event will take place from 3-5 pm Central Daylight Time (UTC-5) on Wed 20 March. That translates to:
1-3 pm Wednesday Mar 20 in San Francisco
4-6 pm Wednesday Mar 20 in New York
8-10 pm Wednesday Mar 20 in London
7-9 am Thursday Mar 21 in Sydney
9-11 am Thursday Mar 21 in Auckland
The first hour is FREE for all registered participants; the second hour is for paid subscribers only. A video of the first hour will be made available to all who register, and the full 2-hour session will be archived in the WriteSPACE membership library.
Register below to receive the Zoom link, which we’ll send out a few hours before the live event begins.
We’d love to see you there!

The Art of Academic Editing
Congratulations to Cara M. Jordan and Leslie Castro-Woodhouse on the publication of their first book from publishing house Flatpage. The Art of Academic Editing: A Guide for Authors and Editors provides a behind-the-scenes look into the philosophies and working methods of eight editors, who describe what it takes to perform academic editing services including developmental editing, book coaching, working with international authors, working with graduate students, line editing, copyediting, indexing, and proofreading. Each expert author addresses issues critical to working with academic clients — including ethical and linguistic concerns — to help authors and editors collaborate more efficiently.
